Disney Release Date Excitement: 'Avengers: Infinity War,' Animated Films and More

Earlier today, Disney announced that it has moved up the release date of Avengers: Infinity War (above) from May 4 to April 27. It's only one week -- seven days! -- but it's significant because the first weekend of May has been the traditional beginning of summer blockbuster season for years. Yet it's only since Spider-Man opened during the first weekend of May in 2002 that the "summer" movie season began that early, as pointed out by The Atlantic last year. Before that, it wasn't until late May that movies targeted at wide audiences opened in theaters.
